MAYFIELD DUPLICATE BRIDGE CLUB

Secretary’s Report 2012-2013

This has been my third year as your Secretary. I have enjoyed the role very much and hope that you will re-elect me for a further term in my current role or as Chairman. I look forward to working with the new committee members that you elect and give my best wishes and thanks to Keith Jackson, as retiring Chairman.

During the course of the year we have held four committee meetings, which have been well attended; there has been a general consensus on all issues and all actions have been resolved quickly.

The year has passed quite smoothly with few problems. Sometimes attendances have been disappointing, which concerns us all, but this is a problem shared with other clubs in the area. Our membership numbers remain constant – during the year we have gained seven new members; it is rather the case that members do not attend bridge nights with the same regularity. Your committee often discusses initiatives such as the Swiss Pairs Night, in order to boost attendances and possibly encourage new members.

Helen Seymour has endeavoured to maintain the database of members’ addresses and emails. Please continue to advise us of any changes.

I have received a number of communications from the Surrey County Bridge Association (SCBA) and the English Bridge Union (EBU) during the period. Generally, club members show limited interest in SCBA and EBU affairs and SCBA events continue to be poorly attended.

Although the winter season seems to go on and on, we have had less problems with bad weather this year and have only been forced to cancel one evening’s bridge.

Enjoy your bridge!
