MAYFIELD DUPLICATE BRIDGE CLUB

Secretary’s Report 2011-2012

This has been my second year as your Secretary. I have enjoyed the role very much and hope that you will re-elect me for a further term. I look forward to working with the new Committee Members that you elect and give my best wishes and thanks to those who are retiring.

During the course of the year we have held four Committee Meetings, which have been well attended; there has been a general consensus on all issues and all actions have been resolved quickly.

The year has passed quite smoothly with few problems. Sometimes Tuesday attendances have been disappointing, which concerns us all, but Friday evenings have held up well.

I have endeavoured to maintain the database of Members’ addresses and emails up to date. It is fortunate that most of our club publications and other communications are now by email – particularly with the imminent increases in postage! Please continue to advise me of any changes to your details.

I have received a number of communications from the Surrey County Bridge Association (SCBA) and the English Bridge Union (EBU) during the period. Generally, Club Members show limited interest in SCBA and EBU affairs and SCBA events continue to be poorly attended.

The Committee has decided not to participate in any National Simultaneous Pairs, this year but will take part in the Surrey Simultaneous Pairs on Tuesday 18th September rather than on a Friday.

Ann Madden and Alan Bailey successfully attended a Tournament Director Course with the EBU in June 2011.

In October 2011 we invited Members to fill out a questionnaire about the activities of the club. The number of responses received was disappointing (30% of membership) but we have, nonetheless, found Members’ views useful in changes we have made throughout the year.

We had few problems with bad weather, this winter, and were able to hold the Christmas Party without incident. We hope you enjoyed it!
