Secretary’s Report 2008 - 2009

This year has celebrated our 25 years as a Members club and 69 of us enjoyed the Jubilee Party held recently at Woodcote Park Golf Club. You have been asking us for many years to spend some of the Mayfield cash savings - and what better way to do it than to offer a party to all our members.

I am particularly busy this year having taken up the reins as Lady Captain of the Golf Club, so my bridge playing and has inevitably taken a back seat until I finish next November. It has therefore been of great help to me that Ann Madden has taken over the work involved in producing the Newsletter, and she has also done a great deal of work alongside Sylvia in planning the Jubilee party.

No club runs itself, and thanks are due to so many willing helpers who set up tables, and distribute paperwork before play.  Once again, thanks to Mary, Helen, Ann and Sylvia who helped me with the Christmas party food to produce a really good spread.

Particular mention must be made of Helen Seymour. She is not a Committee member but she does so much for us. She arranges for all the engraving of the trophies, she did the flowers and made the cake for the Jubilee party and she always helps both to set up and clear away tables. Thank you so much, Helen.

Please keep me informed throughout the year of any change in address, telephone or your email address. I shall email the AGM notice and renewal form to all those on my e-mailing list to reduce the paperwork.

My best wishes to all members for the 2009/10 bridge year and, in particular, I wish every success to those players who will represent the Mayfield next year in both the National & County competitions.

This will be my last year as Secretary of the Mayfield. I shall step down in March 20010 having served on Committee for ten years and for five years as Secretary. It will be time for new blood to take over.
