Secretary's Report for Year to 31st March 2007

First, I must apologise for not being able to attend the AGM this year. It is very remiss of me to be away on holiday at this time and I have to thank Andrew Barnett and Keith Jackson for taking over the tasks normally allocated to me on that evening.

We all knew that Malcolm intended to hold the office of Chairman for a limited number of years but I am sorry to see him stand down. I have enjoyed working alongside him in my capacity as Secretary and, on behalf of you all, I wish to say a big 'thank-you' to him - not only for carrying out his Chairman's duties but also his enormous contribution to the scoring, issuing of the EBU vouchers and maintaining the Website. In addition to these he has also taken on the tasks normally allocated to a Chief Tournament Director since Peter Southon left us.

This year Malcolm has given me tuition to enable me to maintain the Website and to assist with the scoring when needed, so I have been able to reduce a little of his load in more recent months. The Committee has agreed that the tasks undertaken by Malcolm need to be spread more evenly across its members and we are looking to the new Chairman being able to take on the more conventional duties of the role.

It is disappointing that there are no ladies coming forward to join the Committee and, at the time of writing this, I do not know who is taking on as new Chairman. Whoever it may be, I wish him or her every success in the role.

However, there are the ladies do assist greatly from outside the Committee. As always, I would like to thank Sylvia for her generous contribution towards the running of the bridge evenings - in directing, scoring and maintaining the refreshments. Also many thanks again to Mary, Helen, Sylvia and Joan for their help in producing the Christmas party spread.

Please keep me informed throughout the year of any change in address, telephone or your email address. I shall email the AGM notice and renewal form to all those on my e-mailing list to reduce the paperwork.

My best wishes to all members for the 2007/8 bridge year and, in particular, I wish every success to those players who will represent the Mayfield next year in both the National & County competitions.
